MCP & API

Connect your SortlyAI library to Claude, Cursor, and other AI tools via MCP and API keys.

SortlyAI can act as a knowledge source for the AI tools you already use. Through the Model Context Protocol (MCP) and an API key, assistants like Claude and Cursor can read your library and answer from it.

Note

MCP and API access is part of Pro and Premium (and the 14-day trial). On Free, Settings → API keys shows an upgrade card instead of the create form. If you move back to Free, your keys are kept and start working again when you upgrade.

API keys Pro

Generate and manage API keys in the dashboard under Settings → API keys. A key authenticates the MCP server and any direct API calls on your behalf. Treat keys like passwords. You can revoke and rotate them any time.

Connecting an MCP client

The SortlyAI MCP server exposes your library to MCP-capable clients. Point your client (Claude Desktop, Cursor, or any MCP client) at the server and authenticate with your API key. Once connected, the assistant can search your saved items and pull in relevant context, so your bookmarks, notes, files, and transcripts become available to it.

Typical uses:

  • Ask your AI assistant a question and have it ground the answer in your own saved research.
  • Pull a saved article or transcript into a coding or writing session without copy-pasting.

Direct API

The same authenticated API that powers MCP is available for your own scripts and integrations, for example, to programmatically add items or fetch project context.

Tip

This is the "connect your library to the tools where you already work" path. Instead of moving your knowledge into SortlyAI and leaving it there, MCP lets your assistants reach into it wherever you're working.
