Files & PDFs

Upload PDFs, documents, and images. SortlyAI extracts their text and lets you highlight PDFs in place.

The Files section holds documents you upload: PDFs, documents, images, audio, and other files. SortlyAI extracts their text so they're searchable alongside everything else, and you can highlight PDFs directly inside the app.

Uploading

  • Web dashboard: drag files onto the Files page, paste from the clipboard, or use Upload.
  • Mac / iPad / iPhone: use the Files view to pick a file or photo.

Images are optimized on upload and get a thumbnail. Every file can be tagged and filed into a collection.

Text extraction

So your files are findable, SortlyAI pulls out their text:

  • PDFs: the text layer is extracted (all plans). Scanned PDFs with no text layer can't be read yet.
  • Documents: text is extracted from common document formats.
  • Images: Pro AI reads the image (OCR) and also writes a short description and suggests tags.

Extracted text appears on the file's detail view and feeds search and Ask your library.

Highlighting a PDF

Open a PDF and choose Open & Highlight to read it inside SortlyAI. Select text and pick a color to save a highlight. It's stored with its exact page and position, so it re-appears on the page every time you open the file, and you can jump straight to it from the highlights list.

  • On the Mac app, you can also right-click selected text and choose Save Highlight to SortlyAI.
  • Highlights work the same on iPad and iPhone and on the web dashboard, and a highlight you make on one platform shows up in the same spot on the others.

See Highlights & annotations for the full workflow (colors, comments, deleting).

Storage

Files count toward your plan's storage quota. If an upload would exceed it, SortlyAI tells you before the upload fails. Check your usage in Settings.
