Media capture (video & podcasts)
Turn a YouTube video or podcast episode into a transcript, chapters, and a summary you can search and cite.
When you save a video or podcast, SortlyAI can pull out everything worth keeping: a full transcript, chapters, a summary, and key points, all searchable and available to Ask your library.
What's supported
- YouTube: any video with captions or auto-captions.
- Apple Podcasts: episode links resolve to their audio and get transcribed.
- Direct audio URLs: MP3/M4A and similar links up to the size limit.
Getting a digest
Save the video or podcast as a bookmark as usual. When SortlyAI recognizes it as media, you'll see an option to transcribe it:
- In the dashboard, saving a media URL offers one-click transcription, and the bookmark card has a media-digest button.
- On the Mac / iPad / iPhone apps, open the bookmark and tap Media digest → Transcribe.
What you get
- Summary & key points: the gist without watching the whole thing.
- Chapters: for YouTube, each chapter deep-links to that timestamp in the video.
- Transcript: the full text, searchable and citable.
The digest also backfills the bookmark's summary and tags, so a transcribed video behaves like any other well-organized item in your library.
Quotas
Transcription is metered by plan (for example, a small number of lifetime transcriptions on Free, and a monthly allowance on paid plans). You'll see how many you've used before you start. See Plans & pricing.
Heads up
Some sources can't be transcribed: videos with no captions, DRM-protected streams (like most Spotify), and episodes above the size limit. SortlyAI tells you which case you've hit.
